The Labyrinth

"lab·y·rinth (lab-uh rinth)   n.   [1540-50; Gk labyrinthos]"
"1. An intricate combination of paths or passages in which it is difficult to find one's way or to reach an exit.
2. An underground cemetery consisting of tunnels full of twists and turns, and rooms with recesses dug out for coffins and tombs. A catacomb.
3. An unrestrained, abnormal or bizarre sequence of events provoked by an unfulfilled psychological need.
4. A complicated or tortuous arrangement or state of things or events; a bewildering complex; a sacred or holy, inviolably private place or retreat. An inner sanctum."

Somewhere nearby is a colossal cave1, a labyrinth of good and evil where some have found fortunes in wisdom and knowledge, though it is rumored that those who enter are forever changed. Magic is said to work in the cave -- for it is the domain of the Shadow Walker, whose omnipotence and ever-presence are inescapable by victim and beneficiary alike.

Come with me, and we will explore the labyrinth. I will be your eyes and hands; you may direct me with commands of 1 or 2 clicks. Come with me, then, to the domain of the Shadow Walker. . .

"Second World"

"When she came back the house was no longer standing. It had been on the side of a cliff overlooking a canyon with water below . . . like a cliff along the Colorado River, except that the river was muddy like the Mississippi. When she looked over the edge it was like looking down into the Grand Canyon -- spectacular! It was beautiful, breathtaking! There was brown shelf-rock from an ancient reef all over in the water . . . hard to distinguish in the water.

"Then she saw something else hardly distinguishable from the rocks. Something moving -- and she realized it was some sort of prehistoric animal, some giant prehistoric animal. And then she realized there was another one. From the distance they looked the same color as the water, and they were so huge . . ."
